Overheard...

After telling Sadie Kate it was time for a nap, she started a series of "Whys". Exasperated by all of the questions, I replied, "Because no one likes a fussy-head!" She looked up at me and said, "But, I like you."

Getting Ready for Kindergarten

Well, it's official...we have a kindergartener and the backpack to prove it!
Is she happy or what?

The backpack--
moments before she filled it with her school supplies.

A Busy Day

Hooray for new floors, but oh my, the work it takes to get them. I pulled up all the carpet, pads, and tack strips in the hallway and playroom and will tackle the living room a few days before installation. We spend so much time in there, I can't  bare to think of a week filled with a cold, hard, dusty floor in there. Our house is in total disarray, so don't expect an invitation until after August 1.

Overheard...

At church Sunday, Sadie Kate was sitting with us when the preacher began to pray. I closed my eyes, bowed my head, and heard..."Momma, why are you going to sleep?" I started laughing, as did those around us, making my eyes water. I wiped my eyes, trying desperately to stifle my laughter, and heard..."Momma, why are you sad? Why are you crying?"

Heaven

When I get to heaven, this is what I'll see...

Well, it is what I saw when the girls and I went over to my friend, Amber's house a few days after my birthday. Does she know me or what? A chocolate covered Krispy Kreme doughnut birthday cake...
I almost got a tear!

These sweet babies sang "Happy Birthday" to me...and yes, I shared my cake!

Swim Lessons

The girls recently spent a week taking swim lessons from Coach Anne. This was Ellie's second year and Sadie Kate's first. Ellie loves swimming and playing in the pool, but doesn't care too much for the structure of learning and practicing technique, stroke, and breathing. Sadie Kate likes the steps...that's about it. Ellie's lessons went well and we discovered she has a natural back stroke, which is her preferred way to swim. She is now confident and comfortable swimming all over the pool without assistance and we are so relieved that she is now a swimmer.
Sadie Kate, on the other hand, didn't mind going under water, but wanted to do it herself. She absolutely loathed being pushed down to get the dive rings or putting her face in the water to swim to her coach. I thought she would enjoy her lessons more as each day passed, but I was wrong. She woke each morning begging to stay home from swim lessons. Her anxiety lasted the whole week, even after we got home from lessons each day, so much so, that I dreaded swim lessons just as badly. Our perseverence paid off, she completed her week of swim lessons, and she now knows what to do when if she were to fall into a pool. Next year...it's Daddy's turn!

One of many unhappy moments!

Refusing to put her face down and swim.

5 minutes left on the last day!!!

She got them all!

Poor Ellie...it was so hot!
